Breast cancer self-examination, which can detect lumps and breast changes, is obviously something everyone can do. But Hispanic/Latina women do not frequently seek medical attention for breast lumps. There are several explanations for this, including a lack of health insurance, limited access to health care, and unfamiliarity with the health care system in the United States. Unfortunately, the low rate often means that Hispanic/Latina women and their healthcare providers are less likely to worry about the disease. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among Black women . The median is the middle value of a group of numbers, so about half of Black and African American women are diagnosed before age 60 and about half are diagnosed after age 60. Among white women, about half are diagnosed before age 63 and about half are diagnosed after age 63.
Women who live in Alaska and the Southern Plains have the highest rates of breast cancer incidence and women who live in the East and the Southwest have the lowest . The incidence of breast cancer in Hispanic/Latina women increased slightly from (by about ½ percent a year) .

These wage gaps in the workforce affect Latinas at every socioeconomic status, not just the working class. Latina women are the most likely group to be paid at or below the minimum wage, with 5.7% of wage and salary workers earning this amount. Of women in the workforce with advanced degrees (master’s, professional, and doctoral degrees), Latinas earn the lowest median weekly earnings of all racial and ethnic groups in the United States. Despite discrimination in the workforce, Latina participation is on the rise.

The research team measured levels of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies to estimate rates of exposure to the novel coronavirus in pregnant women cared for at two Philadelphia hospitals. Although a minimum wage hike wouldn’t fully solve the problem, it is a step in the right direction. NWLC reports that Latinas who work full-time, year-round jobs and also have a bachelor’s degree generally only earn about $52,037 per year. A White, non-Hispanic man with only an associate’s degree, on the other hand, generally makes $54,620. This comparison offers a bleak perspective of the position that Latina women are in – that despite having more education, some Latina women still earn lower wages and must work longer to make the same amount of money.
Depressed labor force participation and work hours bring down earnings for individual Hispanic women workers and may also contribute to a more precarious and anti-competitive labor market for all workers. Mora and Dávila also find significant differences based on the generation of immigration. The wage gap between second-generation Hispanic workers and second-generation white workers is narrower than the gap between first-generation Hispanic and white workers.5 But beyond this drop from the first to the second generation, the gap doesn’t narrow further for later generations. Researchers said these data can inform clinical practice and care for pregnant women during the coronavirus pandemic, and be used to better understand the prevalence of the virus in the community, and how socio-economic factors and inequities may affect its spread.

Although Krieger et al19 provide evidence consistent with an association between the election and preterm births among Latina women, the methods the authors used did not adjust for secular trends, cycles, or other forms of temporal patterning that could lead to spurious findings. Because preterm birth varies seasonally,20 for example, a comparison between the periods before and after an event such as a presidential election should ensure that any association does not arise solely from seasonally expected shifts from lower to higher numbers of preterm births.
